Of all the countries on earth, Africa is known for its wonderful diversity in nature. “Globally, Kenya is classified among the 10 mega-biodiverse nations, with over 35,000 species of flora and fauna.”

“The country has a unique diversity of ecosystems, ranging from mountains, forests, rangelands, arid lands, croplands, and urban areas to marine and inland waters” (Catherine Mungai). With the beauty of the safari and jungles, it’s evident that “God blessed Kenya.”

“Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”

― Genesis 1:24-25

The blessings of Kenya’s biodiversity didn’t happen yesterday but many years ago, when God decided to fill the earth and asked man to subdue it.

So why does a nation so blessed with the work of nature’s God have its city so filled with street children? The short answer is sin. The solution is Christ. Humanity sinned and is sinning, but Jesus saved and is saving. No amount of money, food, or resources can change the decisions of parents to abandon or abuse their children. These acts are not of God but of man, which Jesus doesn’t approve of.

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.”

― Mark 9:42

Although the acts of children are an offense to God, Jesus answer to the mistakes of men was that He didn’t come to condemn man but to save him. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

So what does Nakuru West Seventy Adventist District do, being that the church on earth that represents Christ? The district took up the burden of Christ giving birth to SCANAO.

“Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”

Isaiah 1:17

SCANAO (Street Children Assistance of Nakuru Adventist Orphanage) was initiated by the Nakuru West Seventh Adventist District in 2021. They came together with the desire to provide food and homes to the increasing numbers of street children, orphans, and underprivileged children in Nakuru, Kenya.

After successfully assisting the growing number of underprivileged children in Nakuru County for a year, they made the decision to open an orphanage for street children in 2022. After five months of building, the orphanage was finished. From serving 25 children, SCANAO are now the home to 250 children.

Truly, God blessed Kenya! And He will bless her again, and again and again!
