Our History

SCANAO (Street Children Assistance of Nakuru Adventist Orphanage) was initiated by the Nakuru West Seventy Adventist District in 2021. We came together with the desire to provide food and assistance to the increasing numbers of street children, orphans and underprivileged children in Nakuru, Kenya.

After successfully assisting the growing number of underprivileged children in Nakuru County for a year, we made the decision to open an orphanage for street children in 2022. After five months of building, the orphanage was finished. From serving 25 children, we are now the home to 250 children.

Our Work

Our Scan Adventist Orphanage either sponsors children residing at our facility or children living with their families. Our facility’s child sponsorship program gives a young orphan or street child the opportunity to grow up in a healthy family setting at our orphanage.

However, some orphans live with their relatives, receiving food and shelter but not being able to afford the cost of education. In these cases, we take on the sponsorship of these children in their own home settings, paying for the school fees and supplies, which can also include mattresses and blankets. In this case, donors get to sponsor not just a child but, in essence, the whole family.

Additionally, depending on the individual home situation, we provide them with a daily meal at the Scan Adventist home. We are located on an acre of land that has been given to us within the city limits of Nakuru. Nakuru is a thriving town on the edge of Lake Nakuru, Kenya.
